Breata Klassen
June 11, 1933 – November 14, 2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce Breata’s passing on November 14, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer.
Annie Breata Klassen was born June 11, 1933 to Peter and Annie Krahn (nee Sawatzky) at the family farm near Aberdeen, Saskatchewan. Breata was the fourth of five children, and the only girl. Her education began in the Aberdeen area at the New Steinbach Country School and continued at the local high school. She attended Teacher’s College to obtain her teaching certificate and taught in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan until she attended Mennonite Brethren Bible College in Winnipeg, where she received her B.Mus. It was here that she met her husband, Hank Klassen, and life soon led them to Calgary.
Breata spent the remainder of her teaching career with the Calgary Board of Education. She loved teaching and enjoyed working with her students and colleagues. After retirement, she and Hank contracted custom homes for a number of friends and were able to travel extensively around the U.S., Europe and South East Asia.
Breata accepted Jesus as her Saviour at the age of 8 and was later baptized at the Aberdeen Mennonite Brethren Church. She enjoyed being involved in church activities, including the choir, drama productions, and working in the church kitchen.
Left to mourn are her devoted husband of 58 years, Heinrich (Hank) Klassen; loving children, Stephen (Fern) Klassen and Krista (Keith) Retzlaff.
