Nalda Marlene Burns

April 6, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Nalda Burns of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully at the South Health Campus on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the age of 89 years.

Nalda spent her formative years in Simmie, Moose Jaw and Swift Current, SK where she received her teaching diploma. Nalda married her true love Keith, on June 30, 1954, in Shaunavon, SK and shortly after moved to Calgary, AB in 1957.

Nalda began her Career as a Teacher in the Business Education Department. She will be remembered by many of her students as a thoughtful, caring mentor. Her last teaching position was Department Head at Sir-Winston Churchill High School and she continued to meet with her “Golden Bulldogs” until recently. Nalda received several teaching accolades, including the Charles DeTro award for outstanding business educator. She also initiated the procurement of the first computers in Calgary Public High Schools. She finally retired after spending two years as a Consultant with Alberta Education.

Nalda and Keith enjoyed travels to Japan, Spain, and England along with many other adventures. She loved a great game of Bridge and a well choreographed Line Dance. Nalda played the Piano effortlessly and could always get a crowd up on their feet.

She is survived by her sister, Ann Studer of Kelowna, her daughters Debbie (Grant)Thomas and Nancy (Dan) Bradich and her son Greg (Christine) Burns; grandchildren Jaylee (Dallas) Nickel, Jessica (Michael) Cooke and Stephen Thomas, Christopher and Marissa Bradich, Samantha, and Stephanie Burns.
