Merna Doreen Anstruther (nee Baker)
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Merna Doreen Anstruther (nee Becker) on March 10, 2022, at the age of 91.
Merna was born in Roblin, Manitoba on November 3, 1930. She attended University in Saskatchewan, then moved to Calgary where she enjoyed her work with the Calgary Board of Education as a Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Acting Principal. Merna ran a daycare center for years, and later was employed at an oil field supply company.
In 1981 she met Dan Anstruther and together they had a love story for the ages. In Dan she not only found love, but another family – her son Tom (Laura); daughters Susan (Lindsay) and Nancy (Bob). Love, laughter, great friends, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were added to her circle at this time.
Merna was an active member of her community. She was a long-term member of Lakeview United Church, the Lakeview Community Association, and Redwood Meadows Golf and Country Club. She enjoyed volunteering in community and political campaigns. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, gardening, bridge, and golf. After Danny passed away she enjoyed spending many winters at her second home in Arizona.
Merna is survived by her brother Bill, her dear friend Dr. Janice Goerzen and was predeceased by her brothers Norward and Kirby.
