Janet Smith of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2021, at the age of 70 years after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Calgary, AB, on February 6, 1951, and graduated from Bishop Grandin High School in 1969. While balancing work and family, she graduated from the University of Calgary with a bachelor’s degree in education. Janet was a life-long teacher and shared her passion for learning with many children over the years. She loved kids and was particularly proud of her grandchildren.
An avid reader Janet loved nature, animals and found beauty in her surroundings. She was deeply spiritual and will be remembered for her quiet strength and determination. Those close to her will know her thoughtfulness and loyalty was unwavering.

Janet will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Melissa (Jason) Huber and Haley (Logan) Thomson; and grandchildren, Ava, Greta, Norah and Aaron of Calgary, AB. Janet is also survived by her sister, Debbie Lund of Kelowna, BC, and her brother, David (Connie) Hutchison of Calgary, AB, as well as numerous family members. Janet was predeceased by her mother, Florence Mary (Jones) Hutchison, her father, Ronald Ernest Hutchison, and her brother, Ronald James Hutchison and her beloved husband, Lewis Albert Smith in 1996.
