ONE LIFE

Registration Closes Tuesday February 17th at 12 P.M.
Description of Activity: Join us for a zoom dinner/movie/discussion night on Tuesday February 17th, at 6 PM.
Even if you have seen the film, joining our discussion after the showing will
enhance your viewing and understanding of the movie.
What better way to come together (virtually) than with friends, former
colleagues, and family to have a bite and watch a stimulating movie. Our
members love the discussion at the end of the film to share reactions and
ideas about the film. If you watch the film at another time, you can still join
us for the discussion!
You are encouraged to mark your calendar, so you don’t miss it! As soon
as you are registered, I will send out the logon info to you with further
instructions.
The 2024 film One Life revolves around the themes of compassion, moral
courage and the profound impact a single individual can make in the world.
(Do we ever need this in today’s world!!). It explores the “quiet heroism” of
Nicholas Winton (acted by Anthony Hopkins) highlighting how ordinary
people can achieve extraordinary things through determination,
selflessness, and the fight against injustice.
Thematic elements and of which our post film discussion will consider
include:
- The Power of Individual Action: The film highlights how one
person’s refusal to accept injustice can save hundreds of lives, based
on the Talmudic quote “save one life, save the world”. - Moral Courage and Responsibility: Winton is driven by the urgent
need to act in the face of evil, taking on the heavy burden of rescuing
669 children. - The Weight of Memory and Guilt: The narrative contrasts young
Winton’s urgent action with his older self (Anthony Hopkins) reflecting
on the “nine train” of children he could not save, emphasizing the
emotional toll of humanitarian work. - Quiet Heroism vs. Fame: The story champions humble, quiet, and
persistent effort over seeking recognition.
You will be left in thought and reflection about the power of one person in
making a difference to our world. I am truly looking forward to our
discussion.
