Cyril (Cy) Arthur Goddard

Cyril (Cy) Arthur Goddard of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 at the age of 80 years after a brief illness with cancer.

Cy worked in the Calgary Public Education system for more than 30 years as a teacher and guidance counsellor, impacting the lives of many students and colleagues over the course of his career.

Cy was a very active outdoors person and he and Joyce went on many adventures together, including hiking, backpacking,skiing, kayaking, canoeing, cycling, golfing and RVing on every continent except Antarctica. Cy and Joyce’s home, nicknamed the ‘Godwilk Hotel’, welcomed friends, family, and travelers alike.

It was always important to Cy to give back to his community, and he spent several years involved in many organizations including Scouts Canada, the Canadian Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and Canada Olympic Park. He was always willing to jump in and help, whether it was coaching flag football, volunteering during the Olympics, packing food for the Canadian Everest team, or moving family across the country.

Cy is survived by his wife Joyce, children Murray (Marilyn), Carol, Heather, and Marilyn (Brian); and his grandchildren, Jill, Renee, Ellen, Breanne, Sarah, Sylvan, and Francis. Cy was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Clare Goddard.

In living memory of Cyril Goddard, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
