Present President's Messages

Linda Manwarren

October 2016

It is with honour, some apprehension and a great deal of humility that I begin my time as President of the Calgary Retired Teachers Association.  The CRTA has a long tradition of a hard-working Board of Directors who strive to promote and support interesting and engaging experiences for its members. It is my hope that we will continue this tradition.

In the near future there are art lessons, a Christmas Luncheon, and a trip to Rosebud all happening.  The website has more detailed information as well as registration details.

Speaking of the website, Marg Espetveidt, with input from several members of the Board of Directors, worked to redesign our website.  We hope you like it and that it meets your needs more easily.  Of course in a perfect world technology would work perfectly.  We do not have a perfect world but we are trying to get close to it! Thanks for your patience and understanding.

As teachers, many of us supported the next generation of educators by welcoming student teachers into our classes. As retired teachers we continue to support teacher training.  Several years ago, the CRTA established an endowment fund at the University of Calgary.  The Werklund School of Education (University of Calgary) currently has a story up on their website featuring the Calgary Retired Teachers’ Association. The story can been seen on their home page Alternatively, here is a direct link

Two years ago the Board of Directors approved the establishment of an award of $1000.00 a year for five years to be awarded to a student in the Education program at Mount Royal University.  Last year a similar award program was established for education students at St. Mary’s University.  We now present you with the opportunity to develop an endowment fund at each of these schools as well.  Please see the Giving Back section of our website for details on this exciting opportunity.
